Nothing stops the children having fun outdoors. Even though it hasn’t been very sunny they can still wrap up in their Hopscotch waterproofs and enjoy the garden in all weathers.

Here are some pictures of the children from Hopscotch Nizells Avenue on their nature walk collecting natural materials to use in the bug hotel back at the nursery. As you can see the playpark is being remodelled, so we had great fun watching all the diggers too.

Bring Back the Bees 2012

Hopscotch is giving away 1000 packets of sunflower seeds to all our nursery children as part of our on-going campaign to “Bring Back the Bees”, helping to encourage bees back into our environment. Please help your child plant their seeds in your garden, flowerpot or window box in a sunny place. Here you can see some wonderful pictures of our children planting the seeds at home and enjoying seeing the shoots appear and start to grow.

We would love to see your photos of the sunflowers growing. Please send them to office@hopscotch.uk.com – the best ones will go on this website!

Dancing Lessons at Nizells Avenue

Nursery Practitioner Lucy Smith brings her professional dancing skills to the Nizells Avenue by teaching the children ballet movements. As you can see, they had great fun learning their first and second positions, plies and arabesques.

Seaford Nursery Manager Graduates!

We are very proud of Hopscotch Seaford Nursery Manager, Natasha Smith, who graduated with her Foundation Degree in Early Years Education from the University of Brighton.
The ceremony took place on Friday 10th February at The Brighton Dome, with a champagne reception! The famous children’s author Michael Rosen (We’re Going on a Bear Hunt) graduated with a Doctorate in literacy at the same time!
Natasha says ‘I thoroughly enjoyed my studies, and as a nursery practitioner for the last 17 years, I learnt a great deal about what I thought I already knew!’

Hopscotch was very pleased to support Natasha with her part time studies and congratulate her on her fantastic achievement.

Green Fingers at Nizells Avenue

Now that it’s a New Year, many of our children will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and help with some planting in our vegetable patch.

Children have been planting carrots and salad onions, and then tomatoes, radishes and potatoes. Planting is an activity we carry on throughout the year, talking to all the children involved about growing and tending to the plants, and hopefully resulting in some produce to take home and try. We recently had a bumper crop of leeks and parsnips.

Any produce which doesn’t go too well is fed to Billy the Snail or becomes a composting activity for the children – so nothing’s wasted!

Donations of gardening equipment such as seeds or pots are always gratefully appreciated. We particularly need hand tools and grow bags.

Chinese New Year and Australia Day

We’ve been feeling very international this week celebrating Chinese New Year and Australia Day. The children have learned how to say “hello” and “Happy New Year” in Chinese, they have been trying very hard with Chinese writing, making red coloured money envelopes and attempting to eat noodles with chop sticks! Best of all they had so much fun making the Dragon puppet dance.

The children have enjoyed discussing life in Australia and had lots of messy fun creating boomerangs and Australian flags. After discussing native animals they all a good time dancing like kangaroos!

Christmas 2011 at Hopscotch

There has been extra fun at Hopscotch over this festive period. The children have performed Nativity Plays and Carol Concerts in local Churches with appreciative audiences of their parents, grandparents and families – with not a dry eye in the house!

The children are especially enjoying their Christmas parties with visits from Father Christmas who has a present for every child.

The Hopscotch Christmas Dinner was a special occasion made fun for children and staff members with crackers, hats and lots of party games too.

Thanks to all the Hopscotch Staff for their hard work and dedication to give the children a special time through December; the staff thoroughly deserve their Christmas break!

Children In Need Peacehaven Sponsored Walk

On Sunday 6th November 2011, staff, parents and children from Hopscotch Peacehaven held a sponsored walk to raise money for Children in Need. A nice cup of hot chocolate helped to get us going as it was a very cold and windy day. We walked along the Seaford promenade from the Martello Tower all the way to the Sailing Club and back again. Once back at the Tower and past the finishing line, all enjoyed much needed drinks and biscuits. Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to raise money for this worthy cause – so far we have raised £433.61. Please enjoy looking at our photos.
