Children had fun with lots of activities for Red Nose Day; the more unusual ones were making an African home and learning what it is like to have to carry water on your head whilst walking on a long journey. All Hopscotch nurseries raised a total of £1630.00.

Peacehaven RSPCA Week

Children from Hopscotch Peacehaven have been cultivating caterpillars, feeding them lovely juicy oranges and watching them grow and change into beautiful butterflies. Today we released all of our 5 butterflies and the children were very excited to see them all fly away in the lovely sunshine.

This week we have also been raising funds and collecting food for the RSPCA to help support animals in need. We dressed up as our favourite animals, brought in photos of our pets, and were very excited when Monica Russell came to visit with her baby fox cubs and allowed George the guinea pig to stay in our garden for the day.

Seaford Mayor comes to Tea!

Linda Wallraven, the Mayor of Seaford, visited us today to support our Charity Tea Party to raise money for St James’ Trust Downs Syndrome Group in Seaford. Our parents generously donated cakes and the children decorated biscuits to sell in the nursery. We can assure you that they were delicious! Many thanks to Linda for making our event extra special and we raised £63.00.

Hopscotch Awards Dinner 2013

The Hopscotch Annual Awards Dinner 2013 was held on Friday 8th March at the Holiday Inn, Brighton. Over one hundred Hopscotch Staff members attended this glamorous evening hosted by Group Manager, Claire Martin, to celebrate and reward their achievements over the past year. The evening began with a champagne reception and the eagerly anticipated speeches from each of the Nursery Managers, Operations Director Jo Halling, and Hopscotch Owner Barbara Ford. Everyone enjoyed a delicious three course dinner and wine before the main event of the evening, the awards.

We are especially proud that in 2013 Gemma Middleton, Manager of Portland Road achieved 15 years service, Katie Peerless from Seaford, Shelley Patching and Lara Purdy of Nizells Avenue all achieved 10 years service, in addition to over 34 other members of staff who also achieved long service awards for between 5 and 19 years.

Our Parents Choice Practitioner of the Year Awards went to Caroline Eddy from Preston Park, Lucy Smith from Nizells Avenue, Amanda Boyd-Pain from Portland Road, Maxine Hawkley from Seaford and Annicke Boodram from Peacehaven. These awards were compiled from parent’s customer service nominations and are especially coveted by staff. The winners were announced to cheering and applause from excited colleagues.

Each award winner received a cash bonus, store vouchers and certificates from Barbara.

Everyone agreed it was a fantastic evening and an opportunity for the whole company to come together and celebrate being part of Hopscotch.

Snowy Days at Hopscotch

All Nurseries were open again despite the poor weather conditions. Thank you to our dedicated staff and proactive management team for going that extra mile (or miles in some cases with snow chains and hiking boots) to make sure our nurseries remained open to enable over 300 sets of parents to go to work. Our children made the most of the opportunity to enjoy the snow and had enormous fun sledging, snow ball throwing and sculpture and snowman building.

Hallowe’en Fun at Hopscotch

Lots of fun was had by all at the Nurseries this Hallowe’en, with lots of dressing up, messy play and great activities such as apple bobbing, decorating spider biscuits, carving pumpkins to make pumpkin soup and a very interesting selection of ghoulish snacks!

Peacehaven Sponsored Walk for Children in Need

Thank you to all the parents, children and our four legged friends, who joined us for our Sponsored Walk along Seaford Beach on Sunday 18th November 2012, helping us to raise money for Children in Need. It was a bright, sunny day and everyone enjoyed meeting up and strolling along the prom.

The yummy biscuits at the end were a welcome reward for all their hard work!

Bid for a Signed BHA Football Shirt!

Hopscotch Portland Road are lucky enough to have been donated two Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club 2011/12 team shirts signed by Inigo Calderon and Rodriguez Vicente, to help raise funds in aid of the Kabuki UK charity.

Hopscotch invites you to bid for these shirts by emailing Jane Spencer – portland@hopscotch.uk.com – with details of your highest bid. Obviously we want these highly collectable shirts to raise as much money as possible so please dig deep, sensible offers only! The closing date for bids is Friday November 30th 2012. These shirts would make excellent Christmas gifts for the Albion fan in your family.

This specific charity is very close to Hopscotch as a little girl called Thalia, who attends our Nursery in Portland Road, suffers from this extremely rare disorder. We have been working with Thalia’s family to raise as much money as we can for the Kabuki charity; it needs £2500 to become a registered charity.
