Health Protection Agency Measles Alert
12th July 2011
The Health Protection Agency have issued an alert that there has been a large outbreak of Measles in France this year. Some other European countries are affected (Bulgaria, Germany and Italy). In East Sussex they have seen quite a number of Measles cases over the summer term and they have evidence that it is circulating in some schools.
There is a considerable risk your child may catch Measles if they are not protected against the disease. Unless your child has already received 2 doses of vaccine, they would advise you to obtain MMR vaccination. If you are travelling to mainland Europe, particularly France, it would be advisable to do this before you depart, if possible.
