Learning & Education

At Peacehaven our Baby Room provides a calm and nurturing environment where babies and young children have their own equipment to help develop their physical skills when learning to sit, crawl and walk. Our caring and experienced staff care for all their needs including lots of hugs.

Our large classroom provides a rich and varied learning environment for our 2 year olds, where they are encouraged to use their imagination and have the freedom and opportunity to explore and create independently with the support of our qualified staff.

Our pre-school children have their own newly developed classroom and separate messy room, where they can access activities such as literacy, numeracy, stories, construction, imaginative play, music and movement with our Early Years Teacher.

Creative play is enjoyed exploring textures and developing our senses with taste, touch and smell. Messy play is a favourite, including play with shaving foam, water, sand, play dough and so much more. We have lots of fun making pictures and creations which the children are always very proud to take home.

There is also a weekly peripatetic Spanish lesson.

Our children are supported to become confident learners and independent thinkers with a wide variety of activities to challenge and stimulate them, helping them to grow and develop in a happy, safe and secure environment. By coming to our nursery children will develop their social skills and make lots of friends too.

Outstanding Food Awards

Childrens food trust

We are proud to announce our nursery has received a national ‘Outstanding Food Award’ for our quality and commitment to children’s food and nutrition as part of the Healthy Active Little Ones (HALO) – East Sussex programme, funded by East Sussex County Council Public Health. We have the Children’s Food Trust Outstanding Food Award, as part of the Healthy Active Little Ones (HALO). This has been certified by the Children’s Food Trust who are the leading experts in children’s food. This means you can be sure the food on your child’s plate at Hopscotch is varied and nutritious and meets the Voluntary Food and Drink Guidelines for Early Years settings. We are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to eat well at our nursery. Our achievement of this Award demonstrates that we are dedicated to providing healthy food and drink for children. The Children’s Food Trust is on a mission to get every child eating well and believe that when children eat better they do better. We share that belief. So we are making sure the food we provide at our nursery gives children the energy and nutrition they need to fulfil their potential. We hope that you share our enthusiasm for the Award and will see the benefits good food brings in helping your children to grow, play and learn.

Our Play Equipment & Facilities

At Hopscotch Peacehaven there are large and spacious nursery rooms for the babies and 2 year olds. We provide a stimulating environment which offers the activities and experiences children need to grow and develop in all areas. Our new pre-school rooms are warm, inviting and well-equipped with new resources including a messy room where children are encouraged to be creative. All of our rooms are furnished to a high standard with Community Playthings wooden equipment.

We are really lucky at Hopscotch Peacehaven to have a brand new soft-room for all the children to use which includes a ball pool and slide.

We also have the luxury of a very large, bright and colourful garden where children have valuable outdoor experiences. There is a variety of equipment to support physical development such as a large climbing frame and bikes, and other sections such as our digging and planting area where we plant flowers and vegetables, so helping the children to enjoy and become involved in nature and observe changes in the weather and the seasons.

Activities & Events with the Children

We enjoy lots of fun and educational activities, focusing on a variety of topics festivals and multicultural celebrations, world book day, parades, dancing from around the world and tasting a variety of diverse healthy foods.

Our charity days include Red Nose Day, Children in Need, Jeans for Genes and an annual sponsored family ‘toddle’ along the beach at Seaford. The children enjoy ‘dress up days’ as their favourite characters, superheroes, Christmas jumper and even a ‘onesie’ day.  Themes and topics include play dough week, smile day, RSPCA week, sports days, People who help us, Fire Brigade, Police and Road Safety.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

The individual needs of the child can be met by planning strategies and targets using the IEP and the advice of a specialist support team and other professionals involved in their support. This can be explained further by our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator. The SENDco will work with the Key Person to oversee the IEP targets for your child, as well as seeking support when needed from other practitioners to ensure provision is relevant and appropriate. Please see our Local Offer in full for more information.
