Our Approach To Learning & Education

Our children are supported to become confident learners and independent thinkers with a wide variety of activities to challenge and stimulate them physically and cognitively, helping them to grow and develop in a happy, safe and secure environment. By coming to our nursery children will develop their social skills and make lots of friends too.

We also run weekly Spanish lessons for our older children, delivered by specialist visiting teachers.

Outstanding Food Awards

Childrens food trust

Our catering extends to a number of dietary requirements including vegetarian, dairy free, sugar free and no pork meal options. Hopscotch Peacehaven has received a national ‘Outstanding Food Award’ for our quality and commitment to children’s food and nutrition as part of the Healthy Active Little Ones (HALO) – East Sussex programme, funded by East Sussex County Council Public Health. This has been certified by the Children’s Food Trust, the leading experts in children’s food. The Children’s Food Trust is on a mission to get every child eating well and believe that children do well when they eat well. We share this belief, so we are making sure the food we provide at our nursery gives children the energy and nutrition they need to fulfil their potential. We hope that you share our enthusiasm for the Award and will see the benefits good food brings in helping your children to grow, play and learn.

Our Facilities and Play Equipment

Our large and spacious rooms provide a stimulating environment which offers the activities and experiences children need to grow and develop in all areas:

  • For Babies: At Hopscotch Peacehaven our dedicated Baby Room provides a calm and nurturing environment where babies and young children have their own equipment to help develop their physical skills when learning to sit, crawl and walk. Our caring and experienced staff care cater for all their needs including lots of hugs.
  • For Toddlers: Our large classroom provides a rich and varied learning environment for our 2 year-olds, where they are encouraged to use their imagination and have the freedom and opportunity to explore and create independently with the support of our qualified staff.
  • For Pre-Schoolers: Our pre-school children have their own newly developed classroom and separate creative room, where they can access activities such as literacy, numeracy, stories, construction, imaginative play, and music and movement with our Early Years Teacher.
  • Soft Play Room: We are really lucky at Hopscotch Peacehaven to have a dedicated soft-room for all the children to use which includes a ball pool and slide.
  • Large Garden Area: We also have the luxury of a very large, bright and colourful garden where children gain valuable outdoor experiences, supporting their physical and sensory development. There’s a large climbing frame, bikes and scooters, and a digging and planting area for flowers and vegetables, so helping children enjoy and become involved in nature, observing changes in the weather and seasons.

All of our rooms are furnished to high standard with Community Playthings wooden equipment.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

The individual needs of the child can be met by planning strategies and targets using the IEP and the advice of a specialist support team and other professionals involved in their support. This can be explained further by our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator. The SENDco will work with the Key Person to oversee the IEP targets for your child, as well as seeking support when needed from other practitioners to ensure provision is relevant and appropriate. Please see our Local Offer in full for more information.
