Parents’ needs are supported further with 7.30am starts and 6.00pm finishes where required and flexible attendance patterns for half days, school days, or full days are also available.

Activities & Learning at Hopscotch Seaford

Our older children enjoy a stimulating variety of activities and learning throughout the day delivered by our graduate led staff. All activities are centred around the Early Years Foundation Stage to help children learn through play:

  • Creative Play: We use many types of materials and textures in our creative room including art and craft, sand and water, paint, glue, clay, junk modelling and lots more. We also like to cook and make our own bread!
  • Weekly Spanish Lessons: Delivered by specialist Peripatetic teachers, these lessons give older children the opportunity to learn a new language in a fun way, further developing cognitive skills in preparation for reception school.
  • Learn to Cycle Programme: Staff have attended ‘Balanceabibilty’ training to give sessions to children using our balance bikes. Balanceability is the first ‘learn to cycle’ programme for children aged 2.5-6yrs. This combines unique ergonomic balance bikes with a schedule of fun activities that build confidence, spatial awareness and dynamic balance skills, thus enabling young children to cycle without the need for stabilisers.
  • Indoor And Outdoor Yoga: This is enjoyed by all ages promoting exercise alongside relaxation.
  • Weekly Harmonica Lessons:  The harmonica is accessible for boys and girls alike.  It supports confidence, articulation, motor skills, vision and hearing and it’s accessible for children with special educational needs.

We also offer a Kids Club school holiday scheme for children up to the age of 8 years old.

Our Outstanding Meal Provision

Childrens food trust logoHopscotch Seaford has received a national ‘Outstanding Food Award’ for our quality and commitment to children’s food and nutrition as part of the Healthy Active Little Ones (HALO) – East Sussex programme, funded by East Sussex County Council Public Health. This has been certified by the Children’s Food Trust who are the leading experts in children’s food who are on a mission to get every child eating well and believe that when children eat better they do better. We share that belief and ensure the food we provide at our nursery gives children the energy and nutrition they need to fulfil their potential. Our catering extends to a number of dietary requirements including vegetarian, dairy free, sugar free and no pork meal options.

Our Facilities

Our large and spacious rooms are decorated with bright murals and wall displays and have a light and airy feel, giving the children freedom to move around.

  • Dedicated Rooms For Smaller Children: Babies and children under 2 years have their own rooms providing a safe and homely environment for them to play and develop with their own equipment and age-appropriate toys. Our babies also have a dedicated nappy changing room and coat/bag storage area.
  • Rooms For Older Children: Our Gruffalo room and classroom provide excellent role play areas in which the older children can really explore their imagination, practice reading and writing, maths, problem solving and construction, enabling children to develop skills that prepare them for school.
  • Literacy Room: Our dedicated Literacy room is a calm and nurturing environment for our preschool children, allowing for smaller groups to work on focused activities. Lauren, our Early Years Teacher, provides tailored activities to suit individual learning, ensuring all children are prepared for school and reach their full potential.
  • Modern Equipment for Learning And Fun: As well as more traditional equipment for learning and play, we are also lucky to have a top of the range interactive SMART board and printer, a children’s computer in each room and access to Kindle Fire Kids tablets with a variety of educational games and stories.
  • Outdoor Play Space: Hopscotch Seaford has a large, secure, outdoor area for the children to explore the many learning opportunities. Areas include climbing frames, large sand pit, teepee, tunnel, large wooden gazebo, role play and physical play on bikes and scooters with lots of room to run around.
  • Soft Play Room: Children at our Seaford nursery benefit from the opportunity to bounce around and let off steam in our lovely soft room with climbing steps, slide and ball pool. It challenges and encourages their physical development and provides opportunities to socialise with their friends.

All of our rooms are furnished to a high standard with Community Playthings wooden equipment.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Children’s individual needs are met by our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator by planning strategies and targets using IEP’s and advice from professionals involved in the child’s care and a specialist support team. The Key Person will work with the SENDco to oversee the IEP targets for your child. They will also work with other practitioners to ensure provision is relevant and appropriate, and seek support when needed. For more information please see our Local Offer in full.
