National Apprenticeship Week: Meet Our Apprentices
As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating our apprentices across Hopscotch and sharing their stories. All week, we’re introducing the people who are learning, growing and building their careers with us.
Next up is Brooke, an Early Years apprentice at Hopscotch Seven Dials.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship in Early Years?
I chose an apprenticeship in Early Years because I have a real passion for working with children and wanted to learn more about their development. It felt like the right way to gain experience while building my knowledge at the same time.
What does a typical day at the nursery look like for you?
My typical day involves arriving at the nursery and helping the children get ready for outdoor play or setting up an activity for the day, such as a messy play session. I gather all the materials and set everything up with the children in the room. I also prepare snacks, lunch and tea, making sure tables and chairs are cleaned after each mealtime. During group times, I support story and singing sessions and help the children with their shoes and coats as the day comes to an end.
What’s your favourite part of the day?
My favourite part of the day is spending time with the children during activities, especially messy play. The children always really enjoy these sessions and are full of energy, which is lovely to see.
What do you enjoy most about working with children?
I enjoy working with children because I get to be part of their journey as they grow and develop skills before starting school. Their energy and joy make them a delight to be around.
Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship?
I would definitely recommend doing an apprenticeship. It allows you to come to work and learn something new every day. Having a balance of practical experience in the nursery alongside written assignments creates a really well-rounded learning experience.
Can you share your fondest memory so far at Hopscotch?
One of my fondest memories was going out for a meal with the whole team. It was a great chance to get to know everyone better and share lots of laughs together. The team is incredibly welcoming.
Where do you see yourself professionally in five years?
In five years, I hope to still be at Hopscotch and working towards becoming a room leader. I truly believe this is achievable here and feel supported in my development.
Brooke brings such enthusiasm and care to her role, and it’s been lovely to see her grow in confidence during her apprenticeship. Her passion for learning and the positive relationships she builds with both children and colleagues make her a valued part of the Hopscotch team.
