Outdoor learning at Hopscotch Brighton: : our new Preschool garden

This month we opened our brand new Preschool garden at Hopscotch Brighton and it has quickly become a much loved part of the nursery. From the first day, the children were full of excitement and curiosity, eager to explore their new outdoor space and make it their own.

The garden has been thoughtfully designed to support learning through play. It includes a messy play area with a mud kitchen and sand pit, as well as spaces for creativity, movement and collaboration. The children have enjoyed building with magnetiles, settling into a cosy literacy area with a story mat and paint pens, and taking part in physical play with tennis rackets, balls and bean bags.

One of the biggest highlights has been the new balance bikes. With a gentle slope running through the garden, the children love riding along it, building confidence, balance and independence in a fun and natural way.

Having a dedicated outdoor space for our Preschool children gives our oldest children more opportunities to explore, make choices and grow in confidence.
