National Apprenticeship Week: Meet Our Apprentices

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating our apprentices across Hopscotch and sharing their stories. Throughout the week, we’re introducing the people who are learning, growing and building their careers with us.

Next up is Elise, an Early Years apprentice based at Hopscotch Seaford, where she works with the Green Group.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship in Early Years?
I chose an apprenticeship because I’ve always wanted to work with children and learn in a hands-on, practical way. Being able to gain real experience while developing my skills felt like the best path for me.

What does a typical day at the nursery look like for you?
My day usually involves being creative and thinking outside the box to plan activities that help children develop key skills while still being engaging and fun. I focus on creating a safe, positive environment where children can explore, learn and form strong bonds with others.

What’s your favourite part of the day?
Garden time is my favourite part of the day. I love being active with the children, exploring different games and watching them enjoy the freedom to play, experiment and discover new things outdoors.

What do you enjoy most about working with children?
I love watching the children’s confidence grow, especially as their personalities start to shine through. Seeing them build friendships and form meaningful bonds with their peers and teachers is incredibly rewarding.

Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship?
Absolutely. An apprenticeship is perfect for anyone who wants practical experience. It’s a truly rewarding way to learn while supporting children’s development, and it really helps build confidence and a deeper understanding of Early Years practice.

Can you share your fondest memory so far at Hopscotch?
One of my favourite memories is fundraising week. It was amazing to see staff and children come together for such an important cause. The sense of teamwork and community was really special.

Where do you see yourself professionally in five years?
In five years, I hope to have built strong professional connections and have a solid foundation to continue learning, adapting and bringing my own ideas into the setting. I believe this is completely achievable at Hopscotch, as the environment is supportive and encourages growth.

Elise’s creativity, enthusiasm and thoughtful approach make her a valued member of the Seaford team. We’re proud to support her as she continues to learn, grow and develop her career with Hopscotch.
